Desert Rose Selenite, also known as Gypsum Rose or Sand Rose, is a type of Selenite formed from a combination of water, wind, and sand. Sand becomes embedded in Selenite blades, while additions of water overtime help form the signature “rosette” formation. Most specimens on the market have been brushed lightly with a torch to help define these rose petal shapes, though it does not affect the energy of these stones. These tend to be formed over a couple of hundred years, rather than like a majority of crystals and minerals which have formed millions, and sometimes billions of years ago. Desert Rose Selenite is commonly found in most deserts around the world in countries such as Mexico, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Tunisia, and Afghanistan. There is a particular type of Desert Rose Selenite found only in Oklahoma that formed around 250 million years ago when a shallow sea covered the current state (it's locally called “Gerber Sandstone”). Most specimens are very fragile and should be held with great caution! Desert Rose Selenite is a perfect stone to place within your crystal grids to enhance smaller stones energy output or to assist in the transfer of energy between other stones. These roses will also cleanse and charge the stones around it, so it's perfect for every crystal lover to have a few in their collection.
